Yakisugi Panelling
Yakisugi charred cedar, brought indoors. The flame-treated surface lends walls and ceilings a deep, tactile character — from soft brushed greys to dramatic black.
Charred character for interior walls and ceilings.
Yakisugi is the traditional Japanese craft of charring cedar. Brought indoors as panelling, it gives a wall or ceiling a remarkable depth of colour and a soft, tactile surface — a dramatic, contemporary counterpoint to natural timber.
Sugi Yakisugi Panelling spans a considered range of profiles, from tight closed-negative to expressive open-negative reveals, each supplied with full technical drawings and installation guidance. Finishes run from brushed and oiled greys to a deep Makkuro black.
At its heart is sustainable Japanese timber. For centuries, Japan has managed its forests with a patience few countries can match — selecting, growing and harvesting with the next generation in mind. The result is a renewable, responsibly sourced material with a depth of grain and character that only time can produce.

What is Yakisugi panelling?
Charred Japanese cedar adapted for interior use, bringing the dramatic black, textured Yakisugi surface inside.
Does the char mark or rub off indoors?
The surface is brushed and sealed with an interior-appropriate oil to stabilise it for handling and contact.
How do I clean and maintain it?
Dust gently and re-oil occasionally as needed; avoid abrasive cleaning. See the char oil specification sheet.
What colour and finish options are there?
From deep matte black to lightly brushed tones depending on the char and oil — see the Finishes & Colours guide.
How is it fixed?
Fixed to battens or framing like our standard panelling; confirm the detail for the chosen profile.
