Vertical Shiplap Cladding

A crisp, contemporary cladding profile with a clean vertical line and a defined shadow. Vertical shiplap draws the eye upward and sheds water cleanly — a refined, modern face for New Zealand facades.

A clean vertical line, engineered for the weather.

Sugi Vertical Shiplap runs the eye upward and gives a facade a calm, ordered rhythm. The interlocking shiplap join creates a defined shadow line while shedding water cleanly — handsome and hard-working in equal measure.

Part of our fully certified cladding system, it’s engineered for New Zealand conditions and easy to specify and install, with full technical drawings and installation guidance supplied. Finish it in natural oil or charred Yakisugi to suit the project.

At its heart is sustainable Japanese timber. For centuries, Japan has managed its forests with a patience few countries can match — selecting, growing and harvesting with the next generation in mind. The result is a renewable, responsibly sourced material with a depth of grain and character that only time can produce.

FAQs
What is vertical shiplap cladding?

A shiplap weatherboard installed vertically, giving strong vertical lines with a concealed, weather-resistant overlap joint.

What fixing and cavity does it require?

Fix over a drained, ventilated cavity with horizontal cavity battens or nogs as required, using pre-drilled, sized fixings per the Vertical Shiplap installation guide.

What is the effective cover?

See the Vertical Shiplap specification sheet for cover, board size and fixing centres.

Is it suitable for all NZ exposure zones?

Installed to the specification and E2/AS1, SUGi cladding suits NZ environments — confirm the fixing for your specific wind and exposure zone.

What finish should I use?

An oil or stain, pre-coated to all faces and cut ends before fixing — see the Finishes & Colours guide.
