Timber Screening
Transform exterior spaces with our architectural timber screening range. Crafted from GOHO-certified Japanese timbers, our screening battens create striking façade elements — from privacy screens and entrance features to dramatic, light-filtering installations.
Architectural screening that shapes light and privacy.
Sugi Timber Screening turns a simple batten into architecture — defining entrances, filtering light, and giving privacy without closing a space off. Specified at the spacing your project calls for, the same batten can read as a delicate veil or a solid, rhythmic screen.
Each piece can be specified natural, custom-coloured, or finished in traditional charred Yakisugi for enhanced durability and a rich, distinctive surface. It’s part of our certified system and supplied with full technical drawings and installation guidance.
At its heart is sustainable Japanese timber. For centuries, Japan has managed its forests with a patience few countries can match — selecting, growing and harvesting with the next generation in mind. The result is a renewable, responsibly sourced material with a depth of grain and character that only time can produce.

Resources
What is timber screening used for?
Slatted timber screens provide privacy, sun control, fencing and feature facades — indoors or out.
Is the timber durable outdoors?
Naturally durable Japanese cedar; for exterior screens it meets NZBC B2 durability when finished and maintained as specified — see the SCION durability report.
What fixing and spacing is used?
Slat size and spacing are project-specific; fix to a concealed sub-frame with corrosion-resistant fixings.
Should screening be coated?
Exterior screens should be oiled or stained on all faces (or left to silver naturally) — see the Finishes & Colours guide.
Can screening be made to custom sizes?
Yes — slat dimensions and lengths can be specified to suit the design. Talk to our team.
