With over 30 years’ experience dealing in premium timber, SUGI offers a wide range of architectural profiles and finishes for interior and exterior applications.
All our timber is grown in the Shikoku and Kyushu regions of Japan using world class planting and management systems that are GOHO certified.
Our timber is hand selected and graded in Japan then manufactured in New Zealand to industry standards making it ideal for high-end residential and commercial projects.
Grown in the cold climate and fertile soils of Japan, the native timber is highly revered for its beauty and durability. Due to the geographical location and northern latitudes of the forests, tree growth produces a unique and highly desirable grain structure with warmth and lustre that readily accepts oils and stains.
The fact that nearly 70% of Japan is covered in forest is a testament to a culture that understands sustainability and places a high value on its own natural resources.
Timber is used extensively through out Japan’s design and architecture with buildings still standing after centuries exposed to the elements. Japan’s Horyuji Temple was built more than 1400 years ago using Japanese Hinoki timber.
